In 2008, the use of TMS was approved by the U.S. Food Drug Administration (FDA) after a thorough investigation by the National Institute of Health (NIH) of the United States of America. In addition, it was supported by the International Psychiatric Community.

This treatment has been used for years with much success in the United States, Canada, Australia, Israel, and all countries in the European Union; as well as Latin American countries such as: Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Costa Rica. In these countries, the use of TMS has been approved not only for the treatment of depression but also for other psychiatric and neurological disorders.

Since 2006, all private practice and treatment takes place exclusively in our clinic in San Jose, TMS Costa Rica; which is certified by the Costa Rican Ministry of Health.

The NeuroFT Clinic specialist in neurological rehabilitation has likewise been certified by the Costa Rican Ministry of Health. Doctor Lisa Riggioni is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association of the United States and has been accredited by APTA as a Certified Neurological Specialist.

TMS EQUIPMENT

TMS Costa Rica uses the Magstim Super Rapid 2 system. This equipment is the best in its category and comes with operation certificates granted by the European Economic Community.

The Magstim Rapid² repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulator (rTMS) device is a highly effective non-invasive biphasic magnetic stimulator developed as a result of extensive research. It is able to maintain a consistent pulse amplitude/frequency during the delivery of stimulation trains through Single Pulse, Repetitive, Burst, and Session modes of operation.

This equipment consists of a capacitor that generates a great electromagnetic field that is connected to an "8" shaped coil. The coil is used to apply this magnetism to certain coordinates on the skull of the patient.
